Foundation

The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York Foundation, Inc. is a New York not-for-profit corporation, formed in 1998 and qualified as tax exempt under IRS §501(c)(3).  Its purposes are to foster among the public a better understanding of the law and the role of women in society and the contributions and achievements of women lawyers; to promote professional ethics and responsibility and service to the public; to improve the administration of justice and promote the fair and equal treatment of women under the law and in legal institutions; to promote the use of the law and legal institutions to enable women to realize their full potential and to instill in succeeding generations of lawyers the goals and values stated above.

The WBASNY Foundation accomplishes these purposes through such channels as its Board of Directors deems appropriate including collaborating with bar associations and other organizations within and without the legal profession; organizing, sponsoring and undertaking studies, conferences, projects, publications, and any and all other means of discourse, communication and exchange of ideas, and providing scholarship, fellowship, and other financial assistance to students and scholars.

Any past President of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York may be appointed by the Board of Directors of the Foundation to serve as a director, with a maximum of five directors currently authorized.
