What Happens When Doing
the Right Thing Can Land You in Jail?

This panel will focus on strategies for defending activists. It will discuss recent cases involving environmental activists in upstate New York and the “Smithfield Trial” in which two animal activists were acquitted of rescuing sick piglets from a factory farm in Utah.

Speakers: Chris Carraway, Director of the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law; Wayne Hsiung, attorney and activist who successfully defended himself in State of Utah v. Hsiung; and Sujata Sidhu Gibson, Attorney for We Are Seneca Lake and Professor of Law at Cornell Law School
