Women’s History Month: The Path to the Bench
A free 1.5-hour CLE program
March 29, 2021 @ 4 p.m.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Gender Fairness Committee of the Third Judicial District will present a two-part virtual program. Additionally, the Gender Fairness Committee will announce and bestow the Hon. Leslie E. Stein Gender Equity Award.
It will begin with a showing of the Committee’s documentary film, “Blazing a Trail: Pioneering Women Judges of the Third Judicial District,” a 30-minute program featuring interviews with the historic women who broke barriers throughout the judiciary.
Next, a live panel discussion moderated by Hon. Rachel Kretser (Ret.), chair of the Gender Fairness Committee, will reveal and discuss the logistical barriers to a career on the bench. The judges will discuss their personal experiences and reveal what really goes on behind the scene.
On the panel are:
• Hon. Andra Ackerman, the first woman in the 300-year-history of Albany County to serve as County Court Judge.
• Hon. Sherri Brooks-Morton, the first ever female Family Court Judge of color in Albany County.
• Hon. Lisa M. Fisher, who was offered as a “sacrificial lamb” candidate against the favorite and pulled out an unlikely and historic victory.
• Hon. Leslie E. Stein, a woman who has climbed the judicial ladder from Albany City Court to Supreme Court to the Appellate Division and, finally, the Court of Appeals.
Registration is through our co-sponsor, the Albany County Bar Association: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Hu-MPKrwSruTTfeKstoYNw
