Insurance Coverage for Same Sex Couples

An Act to amend the insurance law to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility to partners of the same sex.)

The Women’s Bar of the State of New York (WBASNY) emphatically strongly supports the above referenced measure recognizing marriage equality for all New York families.

The legislation enables same sex couples to plan and grow their families by mandating equal access to infertility treatment.

The bill requires an insurer’s infertility offerings be applied equally to all insureds who are part of a legally recognized relationship and prohibits insurers from placing additional requirements for infertility coverage on an insured to provide insurance coverage.

WBASNY supports the Infertility Legislation and urges the legislature to enact S.8175 to provide equal access to infertility treatment to all insureds.
