Highlights of Presidency:

During my presidency I established the Judge Judith Kaye Award to recognize WBASNY members who are members of the judiciary, support magistrates, and law clerks that have demonstrated the ideals which Judge Kaye embodied during her tenure as Chief Judge..

Governor Paterson and Attorney General Mario Cuomo specifically requested that I, as president WBASNY, publicly comment on significant legislation, including the judicial selection process, same sex marriage, no-fault divorce, family health care and the New York budget.

I was interviewed by AG Andrew Cuomo regarding the successor to Judge Kaye and my letter was published in the NY Law Journal.

I was requested by Governor Paterson to participate and comment on a variety of topics, from the blatant lack of diversity of the candidates for the position of chief judge, to same-sex marriage to no-fault divorce.

I had quarterly “teas” with Judge Judith Kaye and with Judge Jonathan Lipman – then Chief Judge of the NY Courts to discuss issues between WBASNY and the NY courts..

I met with Judge Jonathan Lipman periodically during my tenure regarding issues he needed help from WBASNY.

I brought WBASNY back into the black to make it financially sound. WBASNY continued to have a strong voice when it came to matters involving the NY legislature and the judiciary.

WBASNY membership remained stable in part by our members’ recognition of all that WBASNY has to offer.

I participated in the NY State of State days to bring WBASNY into the forefront.

Successfully engaged in nominating members to the ABA Commission of Women Awards, National Women’s Rights Hall of Fame, NYS Bar Association, the 2009 Next Generation Leadership Award from the Israel African Methodist Church of Albany, Albany Law School’s Donald D. DeAngelis Distinguished Alumni in Service Award National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations, Pace Law School Lifetime Achievement Award and the Westchester Legal Community’s “Above the Bar Awards” to bring a spotlight on WBASNY members

No-Fault divorce was passed by the NY Assembly thanks to the tenacity of WBASNY members

I believe the most memorable event during my term, was the nomination (and ultimate appointment) of WBASNY member Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court.

WBASNY continued its mission to promote parity in the legal profession.
