Tribute to Irene Sullivan

I am delighted to offer a few words concerning Irene Sullivan’s outstanding year as President of WBASNY. As the managing attorney of Skadden, Arps, Meagher & Flom, Irene Sullivan brought to our then-fledgling organization the prestige of that eminent firm. Irene Sullivan led us with wisdom and a particular sensitivity to healing the natural rifts between large/small; upstate/downstate chapters. She also nurtured WBASNY’s ongoing relationship with then-Chief Judge Lawrence Cooke. In Irene Sullivan’s year, at the acknowledged urging of WBASNY, the Chief Judge established the Commission on the Status of Women, on which three WBASNY members served with distinction during the next two years: Hon. Betty Weinberg Ellerin, Hon, Florence Shientag, and Sharon Sayers. WBASNY enjoyed a truly excellent year under Irene Sullivan’s stewardship!
