New York State Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts to the
“Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin Committee on Women in the Courts”
New York, NY, Monday, April 29, 2024 – The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (“WBASNY”) proudly acknowledges and congratulates our esteemed founding member and director, Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin on the renaming of the New York State Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts in her honor. The Committee which was established in 1986 to champion equal opportunity and address gender bias within the New York State Courts has been renamed the “Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin Committee on Women in the Courts.”
As Chair of the Committee, under Justice Weinberg Ellerin’s dynamic leadership, the Committee has flourished and evolved, working tirelessly to address the concerns of women litigants, attorneys, and court employees. From advocating for domestic violence victims to spearheading initiatives for immigrant women and combating gender bias, the Committee’s impact has been profound and far-reaching.
WBASNY President Dawn Lott remarked, “Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin is a true trailblazer whose tireless efforts have paved the way for countless women within the legal profession. Her commitment to equality and justice has left an indelible mark on the New York State Courts, and it is fitting that the Committee now bears her name as a testament to her legacy.”
Throughout her illustrious career, Justice Weinberg Ellerin has shattered glass ceilings and continues to advocate vigorously for gender equality. As the first woman Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for the New York City Courts and the first woman appointed as an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, her impact on the legal landscape is immeasurable. Her dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion has inspired countless individuals and transformed the legal profession for the better.
In addition to celebrating Justice Weinberg Ellerin’s remarkable achievements, WBASNY is thrilled to acknowledge the appointment of Justice Llinét Rosado of the Appellate Division, First Department, as the Committee’s Co-Chair. Justice Rosado’s commitment to advancing fairness and representation in the judiciary makes her an ideal co-chair for the Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin Committee on Women in the Courts.
