(New York, NY, Wednesday, July 22, 2020) The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) extends its sincerest condolences to the Hon. Esther Salas, United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey, in response to the tragic death of her son Daniel Anderl. Daniel was preparing to start his junior year at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in the fall and was interested in pursuing a legal career, just like both of his parents.

We also send prayers for the swift and complete recovery of Judge Salas’s husband, Mark Anderl, a criminal defense attorney with his law firm, Anderl & Oakley, P.C. Mr. Anderl was wounded in the gunman’s attack on the family’s home on Sunday night.

Judge Salas, recognized by the Hispanic National Bar Association and others as a “community leader,” “trailblazer,” “role model” and “mentor,” is the first Hispanic woman to serve as a federal judge in New Jersey.

The safety of the judiciary is vital to the rule of law and our democracy. WBASNY fully supports enhanced measures to ensure the protection and safety of all of our state and federal judges.
