New York, NY, Wednesday, October 23, 2024 – The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (“WBASNY”) mourns the passing of the Honorable Dawn Marie Jimenez-Salta, Justice of the Supreme Court, Nassau County. She was a beloved member of WBASNY and the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association (“BWBA”), a Chapter of WBASNY. The sudden tragic passing of Justice Jimenez-Salta in a motorcycle accident on the Long Island Expressway leaves us with heavy hearts.
Justice Jimenez-Salta was a well-respected member of the bench and bar. At the time of her passing, she was serving as a Nassau County Supreme Court Justice. In 2007, Justice Jimenez-Salta was elected to the New York City Civil Court and served in such capacity in Kings County from 2008 until 2013, when she became an Acting Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court. In 2014, she was elected as a Supreme Court Justice. In 1999, she was appointed Judge of the New York City Housing Court and was reappointed in 2004. Prior to her judicial career, Justice Jimenez, served as a partner at Borah, Goldstein, Altschuler & Schwartz, P.C.
As a member of the bench, Justice Jimenez-Salta evaluated all matters with patience and compassion and ensured justice for the litigants who appeared before her. As a woman of Italian and Puerto Rican heritage, Justice Jimenez-Salta proudly reflected the diversity of the Brooklyn and Long Island communities she served. We will never forget Justice Jimenez-Salta’s positive and meaningful impact on our communities.
